Call me old fashion but when Americans have differences of opinion does there have to be so much mean spiritedness. We are a nation of independents but yet the far extremes rule the country. In a nation of 300 million people, there is not one democrat that feels he/she could do better than President Obama? Did all ten republicans have to raise their hands against 10 to 1 cuts to taxes?
Obviously if we reform the tax code, companies like GE will see a tax increase. If you make a flat tax, people above the % will go down and below will go up. Do the oil companies need incentive money from the government to find oil? If Warren Buffett says he can pay more, then that is a pretty loud voice. If he says the $33k he gets from social security is not needed then maybe he is right. If he gives it back then that is $33k but if all millionaires give it back then that is billions.
The argument against raising taxes on the wealthy because it only raises $50 billion is not sound. If the $50 billion is legislated to directly reduce the deficit then that is a good thing. If congress is only able to guarantee cuts during their term then that is when the cuts should be made. What kind of fool tells someone ten years from now what they can or cannot do? The cuts should be now. Unfortunately the republicans have to preach to the base while the vast majority of Americans go unrepresented in the White House. Pragmatism is a dirty word.
